The one, the only... Ms. Sonja

Ms. Sonja has been involved in teaching music at Discovery Children's Centre for years. Many of your children who have older siblings enjoyed her as well.
She is a trained Early Childhood Educator so she knows how to grab and hold children's attention of this age group.

This weeks session consisted of making children aware that their own bodies can make music and keep rhythm. They tapped their feet together while she played guitar.

She then introduced the concept of math in a very clever way using small white cups.
By using song, Ms. Sonja directed them to build a castle in a specific way.
"Three on the bottom, two in the middle, and one on top."

She learned this way of building a castle from another child and shared it with us.

For some it was easy and for others it was more difficult. All the children were very focused!

Next, she gave them bubble wrap. Bubble wrap works fine motor skills.
The children were encouraged to twist and turn to make it pop.
Some could make the popping sound and others popped one bubble at a time.

We always love when Ms. Sonja comes to visit because we learn while having fun.
These are great activities to try at home.
Let us know how they worked and your children may surprise you with a creative way to build a castle with cups.
