Welcome to Nursery School

The children all enjoy our time outside at the beginning of the day...
running up the hill,

 jumping in the leaves,

 digging in the sand box,

 climbing on the rocks,

 driving trucks,

 jumping,

 throwing leaves.

"The excavator is my favourite toy."

Using fine motor skills.

We used our pinching fingers to pick up the cornmeal

Adding a stem.

"This is giving me a hard time." said this child.

Activities that require children to use their forefinger, middle finger and thumb, strengthen
the muscles required to hold a pencil in a three finger pincer grip. Clipping clothes pegs onto
a cup is another activity that strengthens these muscles.

Building  towers with the pegs takes a lot of concentration.

Milk crates are not just for milk

The centre acquired used milk crates to add to our loose parts collection. The children are encouraged to be creative and use their large muscles to lift, carry, and move them.
They have done wonderful things especially in terms of sharing and team work.
It's takes a lot of strength to balance all those big, plastic boxes in the wheelbarrow.

Every single crate was used! What great play value.
Check your garage for safe, unused items to bring out into the backyard and see what your children can create with their imaginations.

Where did summer go?

Last Thursday was 35 degrees. Today we need our mitts and hats.

No matter what the weather is sand is always a favorite activity.
We use our muscles to dig deep holes.
We use our imaginations to make pies and cakes.
The sand pit also becomes our construction site.

Climbing over the big tires requires strength and perseverance.

No matter what the weather is we always enjoy our outside time
    with our friends.

Lave mes mains

This is one of the first songs we learned and it continues to be a favorite. We often sing this while waiting for our friends to put their clothes in their lockers and wash their hands.

   Lave, lave, lave
   Lave, lave, lave
   Lave mes mains.
   Lave mes mains.
  Je me lave les mains.
  Je me lave les mains.
  Lave les mains.
  Lave les mains

   Lave, lave, lave.(x2)
   Lave mes pieds.(x2)
   Je me lave les pieds.(x2)
   Lave les pieds.(x2)

   Lave, lave, lave.(x2)
   Lave ma tête.(x2)
   Je me lave la tête.(x2)

You can substitute other body parts for mains, pieds and tête ie nez, oreilles, bras, genous, jambes.

New stuff

For our first day back from spring break we introduced textures added to natural coulored playdoh.
For this sensory experience, the children had a variety of legumes to work with as well as snipping fresh cilantro and basil into the mix.
Some children enjoyed smelling the herbs and others turned up their noses. All enjoyed the opportunity to cut with scissors. This activity is a great way to introduce scissor use at home in a safe, fun and sensory way.

Tray tasking activities are always popular. It is a time for children to work on an activity on their own or with a friend taking turns.

These activities generally have many small pieces so they are better contained in trays or on the table so the pieces stay all together.

Another favourite toy is the wooden castle. Our table castle blacks have been in use for months so we added another dimension to the play experience.

The children were happy to see each other again after being away for two weeks.
We all would be happy to see some spring weather now.
